Dedicated to the memory of Margaret Ryan

Margaret died peacefully at home in Ottery St Mary on the 19th December, aged 92 years.

Beloved wife of Don, mother of Jill, Jon and Colin, grandmother of Helen, Richard and Catherine Browne, Yan and Josie Ryan.

Margaret will be well-remembered by many in recent years as the musical mainstay of the New Ottregians musical theatre group amongst others, as well as a founder member of Ottery Twinning Association.
Together with husband Don, she ran Godfreys shoe shop and Don Ryan men’s outfitters, both on Silver Street, until they retired.  After that they enjoyed many more years of sailing and caravanning.

Thoughts

Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too much, and not with your head bowed low Remember the love that once we shared – Miss me, but let me go For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone It’s all part of the master plan, a step on the road to home When you are weary and sick of heart, go to the friends we know Laugh at the things we used to do – Miss me, but let me go When I am dead, my dearest, sing no sad songs for me Plant thou no roses at my head, nor shady cypress tree Be the green grass above me with showers or dewdrops wet And if thou wilt, remember – and if thou wilt, forget I shall not see the shadows, I shall not fear the rain I shall not hear the nightingale sing on, as if in pain And dreaming through the twilight that doth not rise nor set Haply I may remember, and haply may forget Christina Georgina Rossetti

Such a lot of happy memories spanning over 60 years, the home in Filton and then in Ottery but mostly in the hills and mountains of North Wales - great times! John & Rosie Cantrell

I first met Margaret through the West Hill players of which she was a member, as was my husband Peter. She was always cheerful and good fun. Margaret's piano playing was phenomenal and her ability to play almost anything on request was wonderful! She helped my daughter Lucy in practising for her clarinet exams by playing the accompaniment and I know she also played for the Ottregians and occasionally helped us with the Otter Valley Operatic society rehearsals. She was a talented and lovely person who will be greatly missed.
